The Northern Elephant seal can weigh up to 5,000 lb and the males constantly battle it out on the beaches during their molting season. As I sat on the over look, constant little skirmishes would break out between the males on the beach often just leading to one scooting a few yards away to go back to laying down and throwing sand about. On occasion one would be out classed enough to be chased off of the beach for a time. With the constant fighting and burping, they make a significant ruckus and stench. They range along the West coast of north america down to Baja, with the primary breeding colonies being along the California coast. Cambria reserve is an important breeding ground for the elephant seals.
