These are Dune Primroses, other wise known as the Birdcage Evening Primrose or Lion In Cage. They attract moths by releasing their scent at night and are primariyl found in very sandy areas i.e. the Kelso Dunes The super bloom brought out more than just the poppies, the entire Mojave and Joshua tree area is green and alive with flowers and animals this year. I spent half the hike being pelted by moths, locust, and it her night bugs flying into my face. Thankfully the bats, night birds, and coyotes didn't take an interest in me. If you do want to go see the dessert painted with color make sure you stay on trail and practice #leavenotrace while hiking.
